ASVAB Math

In 1968, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) was formed. Since then, this test has been taken by over 40 million people.
ACCORDING TO THE OFFICIAL ASVAB WEBSITE, the ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed talents and helps predict future academic and professional achievement in the military. It is offered to nearly one million military applicants, high school students, and post-secondary students every year.

Scores on the ASVAB are expressed as percentiles ranging from 1 to 99.The ASVAB percentage score shows the proportion of applicants in the group that scored at or below a given level. An ASVAB score of 90, for example, suggests that somehow a candidate's performance is on par with or better than that of 90 percent of candidates in a nationally representative sample. Likewise, a score of 60 on the ASVAB implies that the examinee scored in the same range as or higher than 60% of the nationally-representative sample.
The ASVAB is divided into three types:

  • CAT-ASVAB (adaptive computer test)
  • MET-site ASVAB (paper and pencil (P&P)
  • Student ASVAB (paper and pencil) (P&P)

The CAT-ASVAB is an adaptive computer test. It signifies that the next question will be more complicated if the correct answer is selected. If the stated answer is incorrect, the next question will be more straightforward. This also means that it cannot be modified once an answer on the CAT has been picked.
