The Accuplacer Math Overview
The Next-Generation Accuplacer test is a framework for assessing students' preparation for college-level reading, writing, and mathematics courses. The test is in multiple-choice format and is used to place you in the appropriate Level of introductory classes.
The Next-Generation Accuplacer employs computer–adaptive technology, and the questions you see are tailored to your level of ability. For example, the difficulty level of the next question is determined by your responses to each question.
The Accuplacer test is divided into five sections:
- Arithmetic (20 problems)
- Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) (twenty questions) (20 questions)
- Algebraic Functions and Advanced Algebra (20 questions)
- Reading (20 questions)
- Writing (25 questions)
On the Math section of the placement test, Accuplacer does not allow the use of personal calculators. However, students are expected to answer specific questions without using a calculator. As a result, they give an onscreen calculator for pupils to use for some questions.
